Important information – Windows Vista.
Some BCC programs use the Borland Database Engine (BDE), and two
settings need changing to get your program to work in Windows VISTA:
- A
permission must be given in the windows registry database
- “Net Dir” must changed Borlands “BDE
Administrator”
After the program (and hence the Borland Database Engine) has been
installed both actions must be carried out in the following order.
- First
change the registry settings. If you are unsure how to do this get
a expert to do it for you. ALWAYS backup the registry first before
doing this or any other change to it .
NB: You MUST be logged into the PC as administrator to do this:
- Go
to Start | Run… Type regedit.
- Open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
SOFTWARE, BORLAND branch.
- Right-Click on BORLAND.
- In the menu that shows select Permission…
- Click “Users”.
- Under “Type of Access”,
select “Full Control” and
click OK
- Click OK to exit the Registry Key Permissions dialog box.
- Exit
the Registry Editor window

- Next the NetDIR setting in the Borland Database Engine (BDE) must
be configured.
- Create a new folder C:\BDE.
Now the BDE must be configured to use the new folder. Go to the
Windows control panel, and select “BDE administrator”.

- On the tabsheet “Configuration” the configuration
tree must be expanded to the path Configuration/Drivers/Native.
- In
the “Paradox” attribute
set, edit the uppermost setting: “NET DIR” to the new
folder (C:\BDE).
- Go to the top menu select Object and click on
Apply.
- Save all changes and restart your program
